International Organization for Standardization(IS0)and Bangladesh

Ready made garments (RMG) industry is a vital part for the economy of Bangladesh. Millions of garments workers are dependent on this sector for their monthly wage and survival. But recent turmoil in the Ready made garments (RMG) sector has caused a setback in the economy of Bangladesh. In the past years Bangladesh enjoyed a renowned status in RMG sector. Recently, buyers from developed nations e.g. USA, Europe put allegations that Bangladesh exploits garments workers and provides poor working environment. In global competitive markets it is very important to set a quality standard and build up trust among the consumers. So, any sort of allegation will put country├Ęs economy at a great risk. To solve such problem Bangladesh can adopt standards from International Organization for Standardization (ISO). ISO standards and ISO certification is widely accepted throughout the world. There are variety of standard guidelines e.g. ISO 9000, ISO 14000 provided by ISO. A garment industry can choose a standard according to their need. ISO also provides standard guidelines for developing nations. As ISO is a overall management procedure, compliance with ISO guidelines will benefit an industry by all means. Thus ISO is an effective tool for Bangladesh├Ęs RMG sector to put it back on the right track.
