Drivers Cut Down On Driving To Save Money

Some drivers have altered their lives to save cash on gas. A number of drivers decided not to take road trips on this long weekend because of the cost of gas. Others are trying to arrange four day work weeks so they can cut down on how much they are putting in their gas tank. Still others are taking alternative means of travel. Train tickets and bicycles have become much more popular.

While living close to your job is not always possible those that do are taking advantage of the situation. Walking to work is a great way to get exercise and save money. Commuters that are able to walk or combine a walk to a commute train or bus are leaving the car in the garage.

In London truckers parked their trucks in a highway lane to protest the high cost of diesel fuel. While many of us are angry at what we see when we fill up our cars, truckers have it twice as bad. For those that own their trucks there it is especially difficult to keep up with prices. The protest in London mirrored some of the other protest that have taken place in Europe over the past few weeks. However, what exactly will these protests accomplish? The truth is that they may not have much impact on what happening with fuel cost. For one, there is little than governments can do to quell the high gas prices. If your country does not have oil to drill itself, you can’t really fix the problem. Even if there is oil to drill, the simple fact that it is a limited resource and drilling for it can damage some parts of the environment.

At the end of the day if you want to drive, you will pay the extra money for the gas. Those that are truly sick of the gas prices are taking small steps to reduce that amount of gas they use. Think of some of the ways that you can cut down on driving and save tons of money. As the economy continues to be very questionable, it is best to have a safety net in place. Walking more places, car pooling with friends and taking full advantage of pubic transportation are all ways that you can reduce the amount of money you spend on gas.

Selling your SUV is not really an option right now. Many people that have tried to sell their SUV’s have found that they owe more money than they are worth. This is a very disturbing revelation and it leaves owners of the gas guzzlers in a terrible position. The bets thing to do is drive SUV’s as little as possible and hold on to them until the gas prices come down some. Hopefully a reduction in gas prices will send the value of SUV’s up and you will be able to get rid of the thing. In the meantime, get a car pool system going with co-workers or start footing it to work.
